Cape Town and Surrounds at a glance

The Cape Town & Surrounds region on our search map includes the following areas: Cape Town City Centre, Foreshore, De Waterkant, Green Point, Sea Point, Waterfront, Gardens, Camps Bay, Woodstock, Salt River, Observatory.

Cape Town City Centre, aptly referred to as the City Bowl, is in the heart of the city and surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and Table Mountain, Lion’s Head, Signal Hill and Devil’s Peak. Cape Town is the capital city of South Africa and the second-most populous urban area in South Africa after Johannebsurg. It is also the legislative capital of the country. From its busy sea port, through the business centre, and up into the more residential slopes, the city reveals its rich history and contemporary cosmopolitan character. As of 2014, it is the 10th most populous city in Africa and one of the most multicultural cities in the world, reflecting its role as a major destination for immigrants and expatriates. The city was named the World Design Capital for 2014 by the International Council of Industrial Designand the best place in the world to visit by both the American New York Times and Britsih Daily Telegraph.

The area has undergone an impressive revitalization program undertaken by the Central City Improvement District (CCID). The idea is to make the inner city centre of Cape Town more attractive for business, reduce crime rates, curb investment in the area and create a pleasant mix of housing and office, shopping and entertainment facilities. This has only helped the City Centre to become one of the most sought after areas for business operations.

The area offers businesses offices and retailers premises ranging from B-Grade to P-Grade 5 star Green rated buildings such as Portside on Bree Street, home to Rand Merchant Bank (RMB) and First National Bank (FNB) and holding the honour of being the tallest building in Cape Town. Many of the more recent high-rise buildings in the City Centre offer spectacular Mountain and Harbour views, creating the perfect backdrop for any office space. A problem that has resulted from the concentration of business in the CBD is the traffic. However, as the CBD becomes an increasingly more desirable place to live, the congestion is being eleviated with less vehicles on the road. Other public transport routes available in the City Centre are the My City Bus Rapid Transport sytem, Cape Town Central Train Terminus, located on Adderley Street and the Bus and Taxi Terminals located above the Main Train Station and across the road at the Grand Parade. These are all in safe walking distance from all offices in the area. CCTV cameras, along with security provided by the CCID are also located strategically throughout the City Centre, providing an additionla sense of well being to pedestrians and travellers within the City.

Town is also home to some of the most sought after restaurants, coffee shops and bars in the city. There is an influx of excellent eating places to be found along the trendy Bree, Kloof and Loop Streets, with spots such as La Parada and Burger and Lobster. Long Street has always been known for its nightlife, but other parts of town are now getting recognised too since the First Thursdays Initiative has exploded in popularity, creating a creative hub in town with galleries displaying their impressive works and bars openning until later in the evening on the first Thursday of every month. The area has also recently seen a rise in its “coffee culture”, with new and artisan coffee shops popping up on almost every second street corner.

Many new developments are underway, with more earmarked for the city, creating even more commercial office, retail and residential spaces set to become available as popularity continues to rise. Some of the more recent developments include the new KPMG Place, Netcare Christian Barnard Hospital and Virgin Active gym, The Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) East Wing and the latest Culemborg development that is set to take off in the Forshore area. Other commercial and residential developments in the city centre include, 35 Lower Long Street, 117 on Strand, The SunSquare and Stay Easy Hotels as well as the Zero-Two One mixed use development, which is set to become the tallest building in Cape Town on completion in 2020.

The Waterfront, on the periphery of the CBD, is home to many new commercial office, retail and residential buildings. The precinct has taken off in the past few years with the developments of Breakwater, Portswood, Waterway House and the Silo District. The Waterfront offers premium grade office space and amenities and is multi award winning for it's buildings and home to the Only and Only Hotel developed by the famous Sol Kerzner and the tourist favourite V&A Watefront Shopping Mall where you will find all of the most exclusive internastional brands at your fingertips. The Silo District at the Waterfront has staked it's claim as Cape Town's most exclusive address to have for both commercial and residential. The Silo District developments will be focused around the Zeitz MOCAA that sits at the heart of this district and the surrounding new central pedestrian plaza – Silo Square – providing a gathering place for locals and international visitors alike. The district's primary focus is on sustainability for the whole development and the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA) has worked closely with the developers of the V&A Waterfront to ensure the Silo No.1’s status as “the only South African building to receive a 6-star ‘as built' rating” continues. Furthermore, No.2 Silo has recently been awarded best residential development nationwide by the South African Property Owner’s Association (SAPOA). The V&A Waterfront has also been able to provide district wide services, including the high speed fibre network being rolled out across the entire V&A Watefront,  enables the developments and tenants to unlock real sustainable operational savings which will ensure that the Silo District will be at the forefront of 21st century development.

The Silo grain complex in the V&A Waterfront consist of roughly 35 000m2 of mixed-use space which will include:

  • The Silo Luxury Hotel
  • No2 Silo - Allan Gray
  • No. 3 Silo - a residential development of approx.10 000m2 consisting of 75 premium one to four bedroom apartments
